Good morning – here are your five chart for the day. Each one comes snap stat, quick take and why it matters. Skim, steal, forward (but always credit!!).
So Gold crushes stocks since the start of the millennia, the ASEAN region seems to be benefitting from the China-US trade war, while the S&P 500 has shed $600bn thanks to the Israel-Iran conflict.
CHART 1 • Gold crushes stocks over 25-year marathon
The ultimate safe haven has delivered the performance shock of a generation. Gold has soared over 1,000% since 2000 while the S&P 500 managed just 312% over the same period. Even when including dividends, stocks only reached ≈550% total returns, trailing gold's spectacular run by a massive margin.
Snap stat – Gold rose over 1,000% since 2000 versus S&P 500's 312% gain.
Quick take – Low real interest rates and recurring crises made holding gold more attractive than cash over this period.
Why it matters – Safe haven demand trumps innovation when investors fear currency debasement and conflict.
